Fishing In Limousin

The Limousin is regarded by many as being an anglers paradise. Its abundant waterways offer fishing for all levels of expertise. There is plenty of space for all with over 3000 lakes,11,000 kms of rivers and 39 dammed reservoirs.

Whether you just want a day's fishing, or to go out every day for two weeks, most of
France offers great fishing. Coarse fishing offers some of the best fishing in France and is available in most departments of France.

Getting It Right

The first priority is to make yourself legal. Rivers are patrolled by Guardians de pêche and by the gendarmes to ensure that anglers have a permit. The small cost of the permit by far out weighs the penalties that can be imposed.

The permits come in various forms as follows....

Permit for 1st category lakes and rivers
Permit for 2nd category lakes and rivers.
Permit for under 16's

Holiday Permit - The Carte de Pêche de Vacances covers you for 15 consecutive days and currently costs about 28 euros and can be used between 1st June and 30th November.
If you wish to fish after 30th November and before 1st June an annual fishing permit is obligatory. This currently costs about 60 euros. The benefit of the Carte de Pêche de Vacances is that the distinction between 1st and 2nd fishing categories is deemed irrelevant thus eliminating any confusion.
