| Seasons in the sun-Le Moribond I'm following Steve's post about Terry Jacks and Nirvana very own versions of Seasons in the sun, which is originally titled Le Moribond and written by Jacques Brel, a Francophone (Belgium) singer, songwriter, poet, actor, etc, who influenced so many other artists like David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and so on... To this day, there are not much artists that have this amazing theatrical side of them, sarcasim, writing skills, voice and all of this combine with elegance, drama, and to put it blunlty, BALLS... This is such a poignant song, and I remember growing up thinking how heavy it was... My wildest dream would have been to see Jacques performing Don Quixote on stage... He died way too early, leaving us with a nostalgic taste in our mouth... It's amazing the legacy he leaves behind him... (as well as Georges Brassens and others...). I feel we are all children of Jacques Brel... At least there are some footages and movies where we can really appreciate his talent. For instance he was great in My uncle Benjamin. Adieu Jacques, on t'aimait bien... Jacques Prevert On this day, in 1977, Jacques Prevert (poet, writer, screenwriter, actor, composer) left us. Anniversaire de la mort de Jacques Prevert. He wrote Les feuilles mortes/The Autumn Leaves (music by Joseph Kosma) Wrote screenplays for movies like Quai des brumes/Port of shadows and les Visiteurs du soirs/the Devil's enjoys, les enfants du paradis/Children of paradise (Director Marcel Carne, I had the privilege to meet once) A treasure, merci Jacques ! Antoine-Marie-Roger de Saint-Exupery Long name for a special man... Today is the 60th anniversary of the Little Prince (le Petit Prince), one of Antoine's famous novel. 60 years... You cannot think about "St Ex" and not wonder... Poet, writer, explorator, aviator, etc etc... Many lives in one body... Bon anniversaire petit Prince...You only see rightly with the heart, what matters is invisible to the eyes. the Santa Cruz band! The Santa Cruz band... Is not from Santa Cruz, not even from California, no no, not even from...the US!!!!!! They are from ... ... ... FRANCE!!! from Rennes! Yep, great americana French band! Oh man, I just discovered them on CdBaby!!! J'accuse, I accuse and the Dreyfus affair A hundred years ago, in 1906, Alfred Dreyfus was finally exonerated of the charges against him for espionage, and readmitted into the army, after his ordeal on Devil's island's prison where he was sentenced to life... Emile Zola is going to risk his career by writing J'accuse, an open letter to then France's President Felix Faure, accusing the French government of anti-semitism in the Paris daily newspaper L'aurore (the Dawn). Thank you to France Culture and the program Repliques for the enlightment. Note that actor Richard Dreyfus is said to be one of Alfred's descendant... Update: Interesting found on Liberation.fr There is currently an exhibition about the Dreyfus affair at the Musee d'art et d'histoire du Judaisme in Paris. Aurevoir Gerard Oury French filmaker Gerard Oury dies... Merci for the good laughs! He leaves Michele Morgan and Daniele Thompson (great writer)...
